Jerrica Becker
Fairview High School
An Oklahoma State Regents Scholar and Oklahoma Academic Scholar, Becker is student chair on the executive board and Region 6 representative for the National Association of Student Council. At Fairview, she is president of Student Council, vice president of National Honor Society, captain of the academic team and cheerleading squad, and co-captain of the color guard. She also participates in band, varsity basketball and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is a Sunday school teacher and member of her Youth Missions Team. Becker plans to major in mathematics and pre-law at Duke University.
Allison Janelle Bishop
Tonkawa High School
Bishop was named Miss Tonkawa for 2007-08 and is the national winner of the 2007 Oklahoma City Memorial Essay Contest. She is a student columnist for “The Tonkawa News” and has been a Girls State delegate and Senate page. At her school, Bishop is president of Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America; reporter for the Humanitarian Club; and a Student Council ex-officio member. She is also active in cheerleading and vocal music. Bishop is a volunteer tutor and serves on the INTEGRIS Blackwell Hospital Student Governing Board. She plans to study health and exercise science at the University of Oklahoma.
Katherine Blakley
Enid High School
A National Merit Commended Scholar and 2008 Outstanding Student of America honoree, Blakley traveled to Japan as a 2007 Wings of Rotary exchange student. She participates in the Young Democrats of America, Enid Soccer Club, Community Service Club and Delta Theta math club. A varsity soccer player, she is a volunteer soccer coach. She also serves on the Enid Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council. Blakley plans to study English at the University of Oklahoma.
Kayla Bowden
Crowder High School
A National Merit finalist and class valedictorian, Bowden is captain of Crowder’s All-Conference academic team. Voted most likely to succeed, she is president of Student Council, Business Professionals of America and National Honor Society. She is vice president of her senior class, History Club treasurer, and assistant editor of the yearbook and school newspaper. Bowden is also captain of the varsity track and bowling teams. She serves on the Pittsburg County Youth Advisory Board and is a volunteer for Caring Hands Health Clinic. Bowden plans to major in biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma.
Trevor Cade Brownen
Minco High School
Brownen has been recognized for perfect attendance from kindergarten through 12th grade. He was a national finalist in the National History Day Competition in the group documentary division and was named MVP at the Grady County Academic Conference. Brownen is active in the academic team; Business Professionals of America; Spanish Club; the Dawg Squad; and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. A member of the baseball and basketball teams, he is a volunteer elementary intramural basketball coach. He plans to study pharmacy at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
James Joseph Buchanan
Union High School
A National Merit finalist, Advanced Placement Scholar and United States Presidential Scholar nominee, Buchanan is a class valedictorian. At Union, he is active in the academic team, Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, and National Honor Society. Outside of school, he participates in Tulsa Opera, Tulsa Youth Opera and is a patrol leader for Boy Scouts. He also plays piano and is active in the First United Methodist Church youth group. Buchanan plans to major in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dennis Taylor Burgart Jr.
Enid High School
Burgart is a National Merit finalist and an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor. The recipient of a Naval ROTC scholarship, he participated in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference, where he received an Integrity Award. Burgart is a member of the high school track and field and cross country teams. He is active in the First Presbyterian Church youth group and serves as a technical volunteer for his church. He has also been a volunteer for Special Olympics. Burgart plans to major in political science at Northwestern University.
Jacob Que Byers
Cleveland High School
A National Merit finalist, Byers is captain of Cleveland’s academic team and captain of the baseball and football teams. He is also active in Foreign Language Club, National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Byers has volunteered with the local library mentoring program and Little League sports programs. He plans to attend Oklahoma State University.
Lindsey Erin Campbell
Haworth High School
Campbell is a National Merit finalist, Advanced Placement Scholar and valedictorian of her senior class. She is editor of her school’s newspaper and yearbook, president of Art Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and captain of the Quiz Bowl team. She also participates in Student Council, Drama Club and Spanish Club. Campbell has volunteered for four years at the local museum. She plans to study chemical engineering and pre-medicine at Oklahoma State University.
Gabrielle Chen

An Edmond resident, Chen is a National Merit finalist and Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor. She is the recipient of scholarships from the Chinese Association of Greater Oklahoma City and the Asia Society of Oklahoma. She has also earned medals in district and state National History Day competions and the Oklahoma State Science and Engineering Fair. Chen participates in Student Council, Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta math honor society and the academic team. She plays piano and is active in orchestra. Chen also is a past writer and editor for the “Oklahoma City Chinese News.” She plans to attend Yale University.
William Jeng-Yan Chyan
Booker T. Washington High School
Ranked first in his class, Chyan is the recipient of the Young Achiever Award from the Chinese Institute of Engineers. He is a National Merit finalist and Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction. Chyan is a Key Club officer and participates in the Academic Bowl varsity team, Latin Club, Chinese Club and National Honor Society. A church youth leader, he has volunteered for Tulsa City County Library, Habitat for Humanity and the Tulsa Global Alliance-Kids World Asian Festival. He plans to study biomedical engineering in college.
Rafe M. Coker
Tuttle High School
Coker is an Oklahoma Youth Expo Academic All-Stater and recipient of the Silas Hunt Distinguished Scholarship from the University of Arkansas. The president of Future Farmers of American, he participated in the National FFA Leadership Conference in Washington. He is vice president of National Honor Society and active in the Oklahoma Indian Student Honor Society. A varsity football and baseball player, Coker volunteers for the State Fair Agtropolis and school toy and coat drives. He plans to major in animal science and pre-veterinary medicine at the University of Arkansas.
Gabriel Conners
Claremore High School
A valedictorian and National Merit finalist, Conners is recipient of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution Outstanding Citizen Award. He is president of Student Council and active in Science Club and Mu Alpha Theta math honor society. He has performed in several musical productions and sings in mixed choir. Among his many volunteer activities, Conners is a judge for Rogers County Youth Court and has organized charity drives for Head Start, Jeans for Teens and a canned food drive. He plans to attend Oklahoma State University, majoring in mechanical engineering.
Zac Dennis
Ada High School
Dennis is a National Merit finalist and captain of his school’s robotics team and Academic Bowl team. He has been active in 4-H, band, Mock Trial, Science Club and competitive speech. In his spare time, Dennis raises and trains horses and is a single-engine aircraft pilot. Active in the Fittstown Church of Christ youth group, he is captain of the Bible Quiz team. He has done mission and relief work in Haiti, New Orleans and Mexico, serving as an interpreter. He plans to study engineering at the University of Oklahoma.
Christopher Dorst
Moore High School
A National Merit semifinalist and Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor, Dorst has earned numerous academic prizes, including computer science awards from Seagate, Conoco-Phillips and Intel. He is a percussionist in band and jazz band, earning more than 20 superior ratings in state solo and ensemble contests. He is a math tutor, a percussion instructor and member of the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps. He also manages his own business, Dorst Designs, offering Web site design and audio/visual services. Dorst plans to study economics and political science at the University of Oklahoma.
Aaron Dowler
Broken Arrow High School
Dowler is valedictorian and president of his senior class. A National Hispanic Scholar, he is president of Student Council and active in senior board, principal’s advisory board and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He plays varsity football and is bass player for his church band. Dowler has volunteered on hurricane disaster relief teams in Louisiana and Mississippi. He plans to major in integrated business and marketing at Pepperdine University.

Wagoner High School
A Girls State delegate, Emory is an Advanced Placement Scholar and Wendy’s High School Heisman state finalist. She is president of Mu Alpha Theta math club, PR chair for Windwalkers communications club and senior officer in Science Club. She is a Vernon Star Award-winning scholar-athlete, participating in basketball, volleyball and golf. She is a tutor and Prevention for Blindness volunteer. Emory plans to major in international business in college.
Amanda Lynn Fischer
Bixby High School
Fisher is an Oklahoma State Regents Scholar and Advanced Placement Scholar. An accomplished musician, she is principal bassoonist for the Tulsa Youth Symphony and is a member of All-State Band and Orchestra. She is vice president of the Tri-M music honor society and has been active in National Honor Society, French Club and Outdoor Club. Fischer is an algebra tutor and active community volunteer with the YMCA, library and Bixby Community Outreach Center. She teaches bassoon lessons and plans to major in music education in college.
Casady M. Fletcher
Seminole High School
Fletcher is a U.S. Achievement Academy All-American Scholar and recipient of a Seminole Chamber of Commerce Letter Jacket. A Kiwanis Student of the Month, he is president of Seminole High Math Club, captain of the CORE Spirit Club and executive secretary of Student Council. He plays golf and participates in band. A member of the First Baptist Youth Group, he is a Goddard Youth Camp counselor, Boomtown Playground construction captain and “Leaf it to Us” volunteer. Fletcher plans to major in business at Oklahoma Baptist University.
Karl Gigstad Francel
Piedmont High School
Francel is president and valedictorian of his senior class. He was a delegate to Boys State and the Model United Nations. Francel also is president of the Piedmont High Science Club, vice president of National Honor Society and section leader for Piedmont’s State Champion marching band. He traveled to Australia as a People to People Student Ambassador and has participated in state and national festivals as a Czech folk dancer. He plays varsity tennis and basketball and is a head coach for youth basketball.
Emily Fuhr
El Reno High School
A class valedictorian, Fuhr is a member of Youth Leadership Oklahoma Class VII and was a 2007 delegate to Girls State. She is president of the senior class and Key Club; vice president of National Honor Society and the Math and Science Club. She is an attorney for the mock trial team and participates in academic team, Scrub Club, Drama Club and History Club. She serves on the INTEGRIS Youth Governing Board and is a junior volunteer for the OU Medical Center. She plans to major in biochemistry at Baylor or the University of Oklahoma.
Joseph R. Gaasbeck
Lawton High School
Gaasbeck placed first in calculus at the U.S. National High School Math Championships in 2007 and was the OU Sooner Math Bowl Champion for 2007. A Presidential Scholar nominee and Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, he is captain of Lawton High’s academic, decathlon and mock trial teams. In addition, Gaasbeck is president of Student Council and captain of the football and wrestling teams. He tutors sixth-graders and has been a Salvation Army volunteer. Gaasbeck plans to major in engineering at Princeton University.

A U.S. Achievement Academy three-time honoree, Ghosh is a National Merit finalist and Advanced Placement Scholar. He is president of National Honor Society and president and founder of the Chemistry Club. He also participates in Mensa, Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, Cultural Diversity Club, Teen Volunteers, and varsity and club soccer. He served as a congressional page and participated in Medical Explorer Post 901, learning about medical careers. He also has earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Ghosh plans to pursue a degree in pre-medicine.

Goerke is an Oklahoma State Regents Scholar, an Oklahoma Academic Scholar and 2007 Boys State delegate. He is also president of Spanish Club, vice president of National Honor Society and active in Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A varsity football and baseball player, Goerke was named 2007 All-Conference Honorable Mention Pitcher and 2007 All-District Free Safety. He plans to study pre-medicine at the University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University.

Goldbeck is valedictorian and an Advanced Placement Scholar. She is president of National Honor Society, secretary of Spanish Club and active in National Spanish Honor Society, Science Club, Math Club and women’s choir. She volunteers as a Bulldog Mentor and a religious education aide. She is a tutor for Kumon of Edmond, a math and reading center. Goldbeck plans to study chemical engineering in college.
Mary Lyn Graves
Jenks High School
A member of the Tulsa Ballet II company, Graves received merit scholarships to attend intensive summer programs sponsored by the Milwaukee Ballet, BalletMet Columbus and the Joffrey School of Ballet. Graves is a National Merit semifinalist and Advanced Placement Scholar. She has been active in Latin Club, History Club, Amnesty International and National Honor Society. Graves, who has danced in numerous Tulsa Ballet productions, plans to pursue a college degree in dance performance.
Zachary Grimmett
Oklahoma School of Science & Mathematics
Grimmett, a resident of Okmulgee, is a National Merit semifinalist, Advanced Placement Scholar and Presidential Scholar nominee. He placed first in his division in the 2007 American Computer Science League competition and second in the regional Physics Bowl. At OSSM, he is captain of the American Computer Science League, a dorm assistant and jazz band member. While at Okmulgee High School, he helped start the academic team and served on the principal’s student advisory committee. Grimmett plans to study computer science and math at the University of Tulsa.
Sarah Elizabeth Hagan
Coweta High School
A National Merit finalist and valedictorian, Hagan won first place in the 2007 Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture Essay Contest. She is captain of her school’s academic team and active in National Honor Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. A Girls State delegate, she served two years as a re-enactor for the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention. Hagan has been active in her church, teaching children’s church and vacation Bible school and participating in the Lone Star Puppet Ministry. She plans to major in mathematics education at the University of Tulsa.

Harrison has been a delegate to Boys State and to the reenactment of Oklahoma’s Constitutional Convention. He is vice president of the Science Club, technology director of Student Council and active in National Honor Society and Friends of the Mustang Public Library. He directed, filmed and edited a digital film for his church. A Spirit of Service Award recipient, he chaired his school’s Duck Week (Doing Unselfish Charities for Kids) and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. Harrison plans to study film and digital media at Baylor University.
Joseph Flynn Hart

An Oklahoma State Regents Scholar and Gold Medal of Achievement winner, Hart has received numerous superior and advanced awards in performing arts competitions. He is vice president of Tri-M music honor society, captain of the academic team, treasurer of the Math Club and Chemistry Club, and a member of Mu Alpha Theta math honor society and German Club. Hart is alto-saxophone section leader in his school band. A junior commander in the Royal Rangers, he has been a delegate to Model United Nations and Oklahoma’s Constitutional Convention reenactment. Hart plans to major in chemical engineering at the University of Oklahoma.

An accomplished scholar-athlete, Helton is captain of the basketball and softball teams and active in track and field and cross country. She is the state champion in the 100 meter hurdle. Helton has been a Girls State delegate and state congressional page. She is president of Student Council and National Honor Society, captain of the academic team, and editor of the yearbook. Helton serves on the Choctaw Nation Youth Advisory Board and volunteers for Meals on Wheels. She plans to pursue a degree in international relations.
Brendan Hill
Putnam City North High School
Hill is a National Merit finalist, Advanced Placement Scholar and class valedictorian. An award-winning musician, he is principal trumpet in his school’s wind ensemble, section leader in the marching band and lead trumpet in the jazz ensemble. He has participated four years in the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, three years in All-State Band, two years in the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute and six years in Central Oklahoma Directors Association Honor Band. He also participated in the Side-by-Side Orchestra with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. Hill plans to major in music performance at the University of Oklahoma.

Humphrey is valedictorian and a five-county Conference All-Star Academic Athlete. He is captain and MVP of the academic team; reporter for Student Council; historian for Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America; and a BETA Club officer. Humphrey serves on the yearbook staff and plays basketball and baseball. Active in his church, Humphrey chaired the BETA Club Community Dinner and helped organize the OBI Blood Drive. He plans to major in engineering at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Jackson is a National Merit finalist, Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor, and winner of the Society of Women Engineers Certificate of Merit for Achievement in Math and Science. She is active in Key Club, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, varsity basketball and summer basketball programs. Among her many volunteer efforts, Jackson has been an academic tutor, youth basketball coach, religious education teacher, and helped build two homes for Habitat for Humanity. She plans to major in finance at the University of Texas at Austin.

Jantz is an Oklahoma Academic Scholar, valedictorian and Outstanding Student of America. She is editor of the Dickson High yearbook, vice president of the senior class and treasurer of Student Council. She is also active in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A varsity basketball and cross country team member, Jantz volunteers for the Dickson Youth Center and Animals for Ambulance. She plays piano, guitar and sings in her church praise band. Jantz plans to study pre-medicine at Oklahoma State University.

Kalka is a National Merit Commended Student and recipient of an Ag Centennial Scholarship. He was a delegate to Washington, D.C., with the 2007 Central Rural Electric Coop Youth Tour. He is active in National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America. He has been active in his church as a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school volunteer and mission participant. Kalka plans to study agriculture economics at Oklahoma State University.

The recipient of numerous first-place prizes in academic competitions, Keller is a National Merit finalist and Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction. She has been an officer in the Westmoore High Multicultural Club and is active in the scholastic team, Key Club, and National Honor Society. A Model United Nations delegate and academic tutor, she serves on the Teen Advisory Board and volunteers for Even Start, the Extended School Year Program and the public library. Keller plans to major in biomedical engineering at the University of Oklahoma.
Melissa Laub

An Oklahoma State Regents Academic Scholar, Laub was a 2006 delegate to the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program. She is Student Council senior class president and National Honor Society president. She has also been active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the academic team, dance team and varsity soccer. A figure skater, she placed first in the Sooner State Games Adult Solo Showcase in 2006. Laub has volunteered for Reading Renaissance, Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross and Food for Kids. She is planning to study math and/or English in college.

Lewis is a National Merit finalist and Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction. He participates in the robotics team, academic team, Business Professionals of America and the cross country team. He is active in Ponca City High School Crime Stoppers and an ambassador to the community Crime Stoppers organization. An Eagle Scout, he has served as a scribe, chaplain and senior patrol leader in scouting. He enjoys backpacking and is a volunteer tutor. Lewis plans to major in engineering at Brigham Young University.

He has been a Boys State delegate and Educational Talent Search Leadership Summit participant. A guitar and keyboard player, he has also been active in jazz band. Lowe plans to major in mathematics at the University of Oklahoma.

Lucas is a National Merit finalist, Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor and a Rensselaer Award winner. He is active in FIRST robotics team, Math Club, varsity baseball and orchestra. An Oklahoma State Regents Scholar, Lucas has been named outstanding student in several math and science courses at Edmond Santa Fe. He also has earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Lucas plans to major in aeronautical engineering at Arizona State University.

A valedictorian and National Merit Commended Student, Maltsberger has won numerous awards in speech and debate, including state championships in original oratory and cross-examination debate. Maltsberger is president of National Forensic League, secretary of Student Council and treasurer for National Honor Society. She has also been active in the mock trial and academic teams, volleyball and drama. Active in her church, she teaches Sunday school and performs in the youth worship band. She has played piano for 11 years. Maltsberger plans to attend Oklahoma Baptist University.

Mao is a National Merit finalist and Advanced Placement Scholar. He takes college-level math and science courses at the Oklahoma School of Math and Science regional center. He is captain of the academic team and active in the robotics team, Foreign Language Club, National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is a two-time letterman and state qualifier in cross country and a letterman in track. Mao plans to study computer science in college.

Marlow has been listed in Who’s Who Among High School Students and named to state and national honor societies. He has been active in the academic team, Literary Club and Chemistry Club and the parade committee. As a member of Business Professionals of America, he traveled to New York City to compete nationally. Marlow has volunteered for Salvation Army, Angel Food and Meals on Wheels. An employee of Computer Services of Durant, he plans to major in computer engineering at the University of Oklahoma.
Alia Rae McCrite

A National Merit finalist and valedictorian, McCrite is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. She is vice president of the senior class and active in Key Club, Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and National Honor Society. She has served as vice president and reporter for 4-H. An All-State and All-Region Choir member, she is also a football student trainer. McCrite plans to major in physical therapy at the University of Oklahoma.

McNnight is valedictorian and winner of the Woodman American History Award. She is captain of the cheerleading squad, president of her senior class and Academic Club, and vice president of National Honor Society. She has served three years as secretary of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. She serves on the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the BancFirst Student Board and is track manager. She has been a DARE Role Model and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Reading Buddies. She plans to major in biology at the University of Oklahoma.
Erin McLean

An accomplished scholar-athlete, McLean has been a four-year letterman and 2007 All-State fast-pitch softball player. She is valedictorian and vice president of her senior class. McLean also participates in National Honor Society, Drama Club, Science Club, Creative Writing Club and choir. A piano player for 12 years, McLean has performed sketch and improv shows with the ACTS Academy and attended the Thelma Gaylord Lyric Academy. She is also active in the Newcastle United Methodist Youth Fellowship. McLean plans to pursue her college degree in English.
Alexandria McNeely
Miami High School
McNeely’s research project on an antibiotic-resistant bacteria infection placed 1st in the Oklahoma Junior Academy of Sciences and was selected for the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium. McNeely’s project went on to win the 4th place grand award in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. McNeely is active in Students as Scientists, Spanish Club, the academic team and Key Club. A member of Youth Leadership Miami, she has volunteered for dozens of community organizations and wrote a LEAD Agency research paper to educate citizens about health hazards of the Tar Creek Superfund Site. McNeely plans to major in biochemistry at the University of Oklahoma.
Jennifer Melot
Oklahoma School of Science & Mathematics
An Oklahoma City resident, Melot is a National Merit finalist and active in orchestra and TEAM+s (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Math and Science). An accomplished violinist, she has performed with the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble, the Oklahoma Youth Symphony, All-State Honors Orchestra and the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Orchestra. She received three first-place awards in state solo and ensemble competitions. She is a math tutor for Mathnerds.com and an avid reader and birdwatcher.
Melot plans to major in mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Daniel Wayne Merriott
Stilwell High School
Marriott is valedictorian of his class and was voted Mr. Stilwell High School. He is captain of the varsity soccer team and was named to the All-District soccer team in 2006 and 2007. He has also been active in the academic team, Beta Club and Spanish Club. A member of Rock Springs Baptist youth group, he participated in World Changers Missions to 12 sites around the nation. Merriott plans to major in mechanical engineering at the University of Oklahoma.
Susanna Michael

Michael has been an active member of Girl Scouts for 13 years, participating in the Girl Scouts Destinations program with the Costa Rica Rainforest Outward Bound School and earning the Silver Award for hosting a Discovering Drama workshop for younger Scouts. A National Merit Commended Student and Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, Michael received the Certificate of Merit for Achievement in Mathematics and Science from the Society of Women Engineers. She is a member of the high school orchestra, National Honor Society, academic team and Ecology Club. Michael plans to major in chemistry and French.

Miller, an Oklahoma State Regents Scholar and Presidential Scholar candidate, has served as project manager of his school’s engineering program. A five-year member of the academic team, he is also active in the Science Club and National Honor Society. Miller has volunteered numerous hours with the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce. He intends to pursue a degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Tulsa.

As co-founder and leader of the county dog club, Shepherd has written and received grants for dog agility equipment and serves as superintendent for the county dog show. The Oklahoma City resident attended Rock ‘n Roll Camp for Girls and is featured in the documentary Girls Rock! The Movie based on the experience of several girls at the camp. Through her membership in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and Key Club, she has participated in several service projects.
