Roots and Wings Sculpture
Ronald T. Roberts rendering of his Roots and Wings was created in 1987 at the request of the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence to honor the Oklahoma Medal for Excellence award winners.
In describing his work, Roberts said, “A young brave in the midst of his dance: one foot is planted firmly on the Oklahoma prairie and grounded in our state’s traditions, while he raises his winged arms to reach for the skies and into the future.”
The sculpture, a sandblast etching on glass, is crafted by Jim Triffo, a renowned Oklahoma City artisan. Triffo’s installations can be seen in the Governor’s offices, the Oklahoma House of Representatives, the Archbishop’s private residence, and many churches and private residences.
"There are only two things we can give our children: One is
roots, the other is wings.”
