TutorPAL, Volunteers for Youth, Claremore
Not satisfied with only on-campus involvement at Rogers State University, Caitlyn Campbell joined the ranks of the PAL Program at Volunteers for Youth in Claremore last year as an RSU freshman.
As a part of the TutorPAL program, she tutors students weekly at the organization's U-Turn Academy, where students who are currently suspended from school can experience a classroom setting and stay caught up on their school work. Campbell recognized the need for additional TutorPAL volunteers and worked diligently to recruit additional RSU students to serve as weekly tutors.
In addition, she served as an e-PAL mentor last year, which involves writing emails to high school students weekly in an effort to improve their written and verbal communication skills. She is a mentor to middle school students in the BLAST after-school program, which provides a safe place for sixth- through eighth-grade students to get a healthy snack, exercise and do homework.
“Caitlyn tirelessly contributed her time and talents these past two years at our community events and fundraisers as well as helping in the office as administrative intern,” said PAL Mentoring Project Director Celina Davis. “Caitlyn's boundless energy and heart for service demonstrate the qualities of a rising star in our Claremore community.”
A graduate of Grove High School, Campbell is a sophomore majoring in business administration and management at RSU. She is an Honors Student and founder of RSU Young Professionals, a new organization on campus. She is also involved in Fusion college ministry and facilitates a weekly small-group Bible study. In recognition of her hard work and community service, the Claremore Chamber of Commerce recently recognized Campbell with its Leading Lady Award.
