Oklahoma Mentor Day

Keynote Speaker Alton Carter

Oklahoma best-selling author and youth minister Alton Carter will be our featured speaker and award presenter. Carter’s autobiography, “The Boy Who Carried Bricks,” tells the story of a young man who despite being abandoned by his father, neglected by his mother and shuttled between foster homes and a boys’ ranch, refused to succumb to the fate that the world says should be his. With the support of important teachers and mentors, Carter overcame many hardships to become the first in his family to graduate from high school and receive a college scholarship.

Oklahoma Mentor Day

Nigh University Center
University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond

As part of National Mentoring Month, the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and its David and Molly Boren Mentoring Initiative are sponsoring the fifth annual Oklahoma Mentor Day on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.

Due to renovations at the State Capitol, this year’s Mentor Day will be held at the Nigh University Center at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, providing a special opportunity for mentors and mentees to visit the college campus and participate in fun and educational activities hosted by university faculty and students.

The goal of Mentor Day is to recognize exceptional mentors from mentoring organizations throughout Oklahoma and to raise awareness about the impact of mentoring in the lives of young people. The event also offers fun, educational activities for the honorees and their mentees to share.
