GoodGuides, Goodwill Industries of Central OklahomaSamuel Montelongo, a 2016 graduate of Northwest Classen High School, first became involved in the GoodGuides program as a mentee.
“Over the years he worked hard to do well in school and life. He participated in many of our events and began to open up as a person,” said GoodGuides Program Manager Tim Proctor. “He made friends and was always willing to support the program any way he could. He stood out from the others due to his kind and quiet personality.”
When Montelongo was in the 11th grade, GoodGuides reached out to him to see if he wanted to change a life through mentoring just as he had been changed. He did not hesitate to say yes. Since he has graduated from high school, Montelongo gives as much time as he can to inspire the next generation to do better. Sam has many mentees he volunteers with through GoodGuides’ mentoring groups.
“We are looking to transition Sam into a one-on-one mentee/mentor relationship, and Sam is excited about the new opportunity,” Proctor said. “He is one of the mentors the program can depend on when events happen or when an extra volunteer needs to be present.”
