Why I Mentor
Oklahomans in every corner of the state are volunteering time each week to make a difference in a child's life. The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence has asked some of these mentors to share their experiences.
Stephanie Burdine, a Yukon realtor, volunteers with the Yukon Public Schools' Helping Hand mentoring program.
Why is mentoring important to you?
I know that it has made a tremendous difference in the life of the mentees I have worked with. I also appreciate the fact that I have made a contribution to help someone by possibly making a difference in their lives.
How or why did you become involved?
I signed up as a volunteer with the Yukon Public Schools’ Mentoring Program.
How have you personally benefited from mentoring?
It has been such a blessing to watch Robin grow and see the changes in her life.
Give an example of an activity you have shared with your mentee.
We have visited the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, where I also volunteer as a docent.
