Syed Aslam

Norman North High School

A National Merit finalist and Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, Aslam is ranked first in his class at Norman North High School. He is the director of United Way of Norman’s LEAD Program and worked conducting Alzheimer’s research in Dr. Yihan Shao’s lab at the University of Oklahoma. Aslam is a National Honor Society outstanding member as well as a member of Islamic Society of Norman’s youth group. He was named Teen Hero Volunteer at the Norman Regional Hospital System and also volunteers with the Oklahoma Blood Institute and the Norman Public Library. Shelby Elliott

Santa Fe South Pathways Middle College

Principal clarinet for the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, Elliott is clarinet section leader and drum major for her school band. She is a three-year All-State Band member and All-Region Band Member. A Norman resident, Elliott was an Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute at Quartz Mountain clarinetist and won the Arion Award for Musical Excellence. She is a National Honor Society member, founder and president of Pathways Writing Lab, and chief operating officer of the DEAFine Music Foundation. Elliott has a second-degree black belt from Victory Martial Arts where she is a former assistant instructor. She owns an Etsy shop for custom painted clothing and accessories, SEE Custom. Sydney Pierce

Norman High School

An Advanced Placement Scholar, Pierce is treasurer of National Honor Society and senior representative for Mu Alpha Theta math honor society. She is captain of the Norman High Varsity Pom Squad and was selected for the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute in dance. President of Pointe to the Future, a program providing dance classes for children in the community, Pierce is also a member of Link Crew and was recognized in Norman High School’s Physics Hall of Fame. She is winner of the Oklahoma Council of Teachers of English contest for Personal Writing and is an Oklahoma Writing Project’s writing contest winner for Narrative category. Pierce is a member of Norman High Kindness Club, Rotary Interact Club and Norman Water Club. She plans to study mechanical engineering in college. Scholarship sponsor: Mike Kumin (AAS ’90)

Grace Qi

Norman North High School

Qi is a National Merit finalist and Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction. She is Oklahoma Distributive Education Clubs of America State president and both a four-year Oklahoma DECA State Champion in Food Marketing and a Top 20 testing finalist at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Food Marketing. Qi is a state Science Olympiad Champion in Designer Genes, Astronomy, Water Quality and Disease Detectives. She is director of membership for Oklahoma High School Democrats and founder and co-president of the Norman North Asian Culture Club. Qi is a member of the Norman North Speech and Debate Leadership Council, and she coaches speech and debate at the Norman Chinese School. Chloe Woodruff

Noble High School

Woodruff led and organized the Noble High Chamber Singers and the school’s Clarinet Quartet. Both her quartet and her clarinet solo earned superior ratings at district and state Solo and Ensemble contests. She is clarinet section leader in the high school band and plays with the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra. She is also a member of Mixed Honor Choir and a two-time Choir All-Stater. Woodruff is a gifted and talented program member and German Club member. She is a vocalist and clarinetist with the Summit Church worship team.
