Amanda Streitmatter, Mentor of the Year 2013Reading Explorers, SandRidge Energy,
Oklahoma City
Mentee:
Azia Nelson, elementary-age
Azia is new to her school.

“Amanda Streitmatter, SandRidge’s senior systems analyst and Mentor of the Year, has an impressive history of youth mentoring and volunteerism. For example, she tutored four years with Devon’s program at Mark Twain Elementary. Her student, Grecia Sanchez, moved away in their final year, but she still keeps in contact with her mentee, who will be 15 in February.

"Amanda participated with the pilot United Way Tutoring program two years – taking a hiatus this school year. Both years she spent tutoring at Kaiser Elementary. This is her second year of mentoring with Edwards Elementary, and she mentored at Dunbar with SandRidge’s Big Brothers Big Sisters’ partnership there.

"Using her analytical and budgeting skills, she has served over 10 years on an Allocations Subcommittee for the United Way, but she also applies her knowledge to helping young men. Amanda and her husband also work with the Carolyn Williams Center, which is a facility for young men between the ages of 18-24, many of whom have aged out of foster care. Along with activities and weekly personal finance lessons, they take them to games or invite them home for dinner.”
