Division of Management & International Business Mentoring Program, Price College of Business, University of Oklahoma, Norman
Andrew Sherrer, executive vice president of Republic Bank & Trust of Norman, has been named the outstanding mentor for the Division of Management & International Business Mentoring Program at OU’s Price College of Business. The mentoring program matches students with local business executive mentors.
“Mr. Sherrer was instrumental in the development of our mentor program and remains heavily involved,” said Mark Sharfman, director of the Division of Management and International Business. “The students he has worked with marvel at how much they have gained from the relationship.”
Sherrer, who has been matched to four students over the years, said he and his mentees have discussed best career practices, how to find an employer or a career that matches their core values, and personal style/etiquette that is often overlooked.
“Through the program, Price College students benefit from the connection to outside resources for career growth, real-world knowledge, and the opportunity to have a safe place to discuss their fears and excitement about their future career,” Sherrer said.
When asked how the program has impacted him, Sherrer said, “Much!” “I consistently have learned about upcoming technology, how to utilize social media, and the perspectives that millennials view on work/life balance,” he said.
Sherrer said he was humbled to be selected as an outstanding mentor. “My belief has always been that serving others and caring about them above yourself is the key to a healthy, team-oriented life.”
Sharfman praised Sherrer for being an active member of the division’s Board of Advisers, serving two years as chair. In addition, he has secured funding from his employer to support the activities of the mentoring program.
