The Leaders of Future Tigers (LOFT) program at Pryor High School has recognized Codi Bendabout as its outstanding mentor for Oklahoma Mentor Day. LOFT provides service learning projects for fourth- through sixth-grade students with high school students as their mentors.

Codi has been involved with LOFT for three years - first as a mentor and now as the program student coordinator.

“Codi is compassionate and dedicated,” said Evett Barham, LOFT advisor. “Because of her leadership, five schools and 40 students’ lives are impacted.”

One of Codi’s mentees is Evelyn, 12. Codi and Evelyn play teambuilding games together and work on their project –a blanket out of recycled plastic bags. Evelyn said her and Codi have set a goal for LOFT to make 20 blankets. The blankets will be given to local homeless people.

“Not only is Codi making a difference in Evelyn’s life, but is teaching her how to make a difference in other’s blanket at a time,” Barham said.

As a result of Codi’s mentoring, Evelyn will transition from a mentee to a mentor-in-training next year.
