Lowe Family Young Scholars Program,
Mentee: Destony Tucker, high school senior
“Since 2006, Jane Sears, principal of St. John’s Catholic School, has been an outstanding mentor to Destony Tucker. A senior at Bartlesville High School, Destony plans to attend Rogers State University next year.
Jane has accompanied Destony during college campus visits, helped her complete paperwork necessary for college life, and has always simply “been there” for her. Always encouraging and supportive, Jane has opened her home to Destony for a quiet place to study, taken her on long walks to discuss life issues, and nurtured her peer relationships by hosting teenage girls’ get-togethers at her home. Proactively, Jane also ensures necessary academic support by participating in parent-teacher meetings with Destony’s parents as well as attending other academic meetings regarding her mentee.
"In addition to her long relationship with her mentee, Jane has taken a leadership role in facilitating mentor meetings and assisting the organization in multiple ways.
We take great pride in choosing Jane Sears as our Mentor of the Year.”
The Lowe Family Young Scholars Program
“Jane has been there for me when I couldn’t take the emotional turmoil, needed a friend of great wisdom, and when I just needed to have help with my homework problems. Jane has been one of the greatest things that has happened to me, and I hope to stay in a family-like relation with her for the rest of our lives.”
