Karlin WilliamsonMentor of the Year 2012
Tradesman Mentoring Program,
S.T.A.A.R. Resources, Oklahoma City
Mentee Eric Washington, 17 years old
Mentoring since 2011
"Karlin has the most sincere and pure heart for our at-risk and underserved youth. He is our nominee because of his heart, passion, sincerity, and the tireless effort he gives to every mentor.
His level of professionalism and consistency has been extraordinary. Karlin is one of those rare individuals who loves others and is selfless in doing so. Able to demonstrate great range and diversity, one of his first mentees was a young high school student in the Pauline Mayer Shelter.
Karlin has carefully coached his mentees in the mechanics involved in making good choices, and he teaches that humility is still an admirable virtue. Three of his mentees voluntarily spoke of his effective mentoring on our agency website.
On October 20, 2012, The Daily Oklahoman featured Karlin in a mentoring story. He has become such a great mentor that I’ve asked him to teach and train our new mentors. New mentors have shadowed him, gaining on his insights and strengths in mentoring. From a spiritual standpoint, Karlin has led mentees to a solid relationship in Christ and how to properly respect their personal family dynamic.

For over a year and a half, Karlin has worked with specific mentees on probation. He has taught them the value of honoring the law, those in authority, and even how to love themselves enough to take care of themselves. He can connect to the youth of this generation in a way that does not repel them but draws them.
A true leader seeks to help those around them get better. Karlin gives each mentee his all, assisting eight of his 20 to complete their probation plan. He releases knowledge and wisdom to those at-risk and in need of a positive role model. This feat he has demonstrated by being sensitive to cultural diversity. The parents of his mentees just love him! We at S.T.A.A.R. Resources Agency and the Tradesman Mentoring Program just love him as well. We are proud to submit Karlin Williamson to the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence as our candidate for mentor of the year.
Karlin has also rapidly earned the position of assistant director of S.T.A.A.R. Resources Agency."

"The Tradesman Mentoring Program has helped me with so much. Before I was introduced to this wonderful person, I was lost honestly, not knowing where my life was headed. At the age of 14, I started using marijuana and quickly became addicted, and I really was not with the right crowd. I started doing all the wrong things, and I had to pay the consequences for my choices. But once I started the program, I didn’t think I was going to go through with it, but I was ready to see where my life could go. I started out rough and didn’t think I could stop smoking, getting into trouble, and controlling my thoughts. Then Karlin Williamson came into my life and started helping me with so much. Now I have completed the Tradesman’s values, stopped smoking, and started making better decisions. I was very happy he could relate to me so I started listening to him and took in everything. I started to make a 100% effort to improve myself, and now I am better than I thought I could be. I want to thank the Tradesman Program for that.
"Thank you, Karlin."
