Beaver Dusters Mentoring Program

The Beaver Duster Mentoring Program has selected Mike Ford, a Beaver resident and owner of Ford Well Operations, as its outstanding mentor for Oklahoma Mentor Day.

Founded in 2014 by Linda Downing, an Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence trustee from Beaver and the mentor coordinator, the Duster mentoring program matches community volunteers and high school peer mentors with elementary students in need.

Mike has been mentoring Allen, a sixth-grader at Beaver Elementary School for about two years. Allen is being raised by his grandparents.

“I have known Mike to drop what he is doing and come to a kid’s basketball game just to watch it with Allen,” Linda said. “Allen was not playing but he was hoping Mike would come and he did. They get along great.”

Mike has been a part of the Beaver Dusters program since its inception in 2014. According to Linda, Mike has never missed a day since he started volunteering with the program. Mike takes his role as Allen’s mentor very seriously and is available to help Allen during after school hours.

“Mike is a fine man, and I always know I can count on him,” Linda said. “More importantly, so can Allen.”
