As part of National Mentoring Month, the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and its David and Molly Boren Mentoring Initiative are hosting the eighth annual Oklahoma Mentor Day on Friday, January 24, at Cameron University in Lawton.

The goal of Oklahoma Mentor Day is to recognize exceptional mentors from mentoring organizations throughout the state and to raise awareness about the impact of mentoring in young people’s lives. The event also offers fun, educational activities for the honorees and their mentees to share.

This marks the fourth year that Oklahoma Mentor Day is being held at a university, providing an opportunity for mentees to visit a college campus and participate in educational activities hosted by faculty and students.

“We are excited to take Oklahoma Mentor Day on the road to different regions of Oklahoma,” said Beverly Woodrome, director of the Boren Mentoring Initiative. “We are inviting southwestern Oklahoma leaders to meet you and hear your mentoring tributes. You will be inspiring future mentoring programs and mentors!

Honor Your Outstanding Mentor!
Each Oklahoma mentoring organization posted on the Boren Mentoring Initiative website directory is encouraged to submit its Outstanding Mentor for recognition. We also invite each honoree’s mentee as well as key representatives from his/her mentoring program to attend.

As in the past, if your mentor can not attend the event, he or she will still be honored in publicity, the event program and on the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence website. Please make every effort to attend and bring your honoree's mentee(s).

Each mentoring organization is responsible for:

  • Notifying its honored mentor about his or her honor and inviting him/her to the event
  • Notifying the mentor's local, state, and federal legislators of the recognition
