Rachelle Pearson, an AmeriCorps service member, has been named the outstanding mentor for Boys & Girls Club of Nowata.
Rachelle has served the program for more than three years, working with youth of all ages. She has organized cooking classes and team-building activities and even assisted with a softball team of which two of her mentees are members.
“Rachelle has shown great stamina, leadership, outstanding friendship and, last but not least, an invaluable love for children,” said Treasure Standeford, executive director of the Nowata Boys & Girls Club. “Not only has she been a blessing to the youth she serves, but also to our whole organization.”
Rachelle’s mentees describe her as “kind,” “loving,” “adventurous,” “a big kid” and most of all, “their friend.”
“We are most proud of Rachelle’s persistent ability to achieve goals with every mentee she is paired with,” Treasure said.
Boys & Girls Club's mission is to enable all young people, especially those most in need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
