Regina Daniel

A & W – Asbury & Whitman Elementary Connection, Asbury United Methodist Church, Tulsa
Stephanie and Jennifer, ages 11 and 10
Three-year match

"Through Asbury's 'Lunch Bunch' partnership with Walt Whitman Elementary School, Regina met third-grader Jennifer and then Jennifer's sister Stephanie, also a student at Whitman. It wasn't long before Regina met the girls' mother, and then the entire family became dear friends. Regina bought them birthday and Christmas presents. The entire family calls her "Grandma Regina."
This friendship extended far beyond school walls. Regina, who is raising her granddaughter, often took all three of the girls to adventures such as the zoo and Oklahoma Aquarium. The girls often spent the night at Regina's and came to church with her. Regina’s actions of love for these sisters and their entire family are but one example of the big heart this senior citizen possesses. When Regina hears of a need, she is the first to respond. For example, in December Regina helped locate and deliver furniture for a new Whitman family who had lost everything. Regina Daniel is an inspiration to us all. It is with pleasure that we chose her as Mentor of the Year for A&W.”
